To expand it into an actual network, I'm going to say it would need to be something everyone would need to have a hive for. The communication is facilitated by the bees, with the honey acting as a sort of...conductor, if that makes sense, but the bees are the core root of it's functionality as a network.

Xanthous would only wish for one hive, fwiw, to see if it's even possible to sustain the bees.
